Local families traveled by water ferry to Bumpkin Island off Hull Saturday for the fourth annual Art Encampment. They found lots of creative artistic surprises. The event is presented by a group of state and private organizations, including the Department of Conservation and Recreation and the Boston Harbor Islands Alliance. The John Curtis House of 1727 is owned by the garden club president, Lisa Stevenson, and her husband, John, a physician at South Shore Hospital.
A 69-year-old man from Bedford competing in the 20th annual Great River Race in Norwell and Hanover complained of heat stroke at the finish line in Pembroke and was taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment. Leon Granowitz, the kayaker from Bedford, said he lost his vision at one point after his water system broke early in the race and he appeared to have heat stroke.

A Victorian tea hit the spot at the Daniel Webster Estate in Marshfield on Sunday. Temperatures were in the 90s, but 30 guests enjoyed air-conditioned comfort and a three-course Victorian tea. Tours of the restored house on 14-acres followed, with another seasonal fall tea in October.
