This silent movie inspired video exemplifies Ernie's twisted but all too real take on the clichéd idea that "the good guy always gets the girl". Jolene Brand plays the girl, with Joe Mikolas as the top hatted villain. Bobby Lauher is the chump. I threw in a Kovacs blackout at the beginning as an extra added attraction.
Here is one of the few commercials that Ernie made that wasn't for Dutch Masters Cigars! Along with his wife, Edie Adams, Ernie satirizes different personality types who are involved in the mundane task of washing their 1955 Ford. An underlining irony lays in the fact that he would perish in an automobile crash seven years later.
W.C. Fields in his classic ping pong match from "You Can't Cheat an Honest Man". Towards the end of the scene, the gentleman on the staircase, who is later referred to as "Archibald", is actor Thurston Hall. No doubt his name and voice inflection was used as the inspiration for Jim Backus' character "Thurston Howell" on the 60's TV series "Gilligan's Island".
