Spartan Printing Company, home of World Color Press, was located in Sparta, Illinois and printed all of the comic books (and most magazines) at this time, 1977. This 8MM sound film was shot on June 18, 1977, at a celebration called MAGAZINELAND USA, and is a rare look at a huge printing plant which no longer exists. Also look for rare film footage of comics fandom pioneer Phil Seuling.
I shot this in 1984 on Super 8MM sound film. Sylvester Stallone hangs around the pool at the Kahala Hilton hotel on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, and is noticed by fans.
Recorded January 23, 1983 - Don Thompson died 1994. This video also has a cameo appearance by their son, a very young Stephen Thompson, who is today a music producer and reviewer for NPR. Info about Stephen today:
